CONCEPT DESIGN OF UNIVERSITY LIBRARY EXTENSION

The concept design of Technical University in Cracow library’s extension.It is the competition project, made by the team of Architectural Studio Archecon in Cracow. The project assumed building of a new 5-storeyed library connected to the old one by a communications corridor and a huge conference room at the level of the first storey. The storage functions have been located at the two underground levels whereas rental and reading zones on the ground, first and the second floor. The main aim of functional designing was in this case to create a very flexible space for many kinds of different users and their needs. The new designed building has been in its architectural form a glass, transparent pavilion with the expressive entrance portal consisted of two brick walls, which referred to the old existing building of library.
